Private Label Manufacturers Association
The Private Label Manufacturer's Association (PLMA) categorizes PL manufacturers into 4 main categories:
- Large national brand manufacturers that utilize their expertise and excess plant capacity to supply store brands.
- Small, quality manufacturers who specialize in particular product lines and concentrate on producing store brands almost exclusively. Often these companies are owned by corporations that also produce national brands.
- Major retailers and wholesalers that own their own manufacturing facilities and provide store brand products for themselves.
- Regional brand manufacturers that produce private label products for specific markets.

Famous quotes containing the words private, label and/or association:
“No annual training or muster of soldiery, no celebration with its scarfs and banners, could import into the town a hundredth part of the annual splendor of our October. We have only to set the trees, or let them stand, and Nature will find the colored drapery, flags of all her nations, some of whose private signals hardly the botanist can read, while we walk under the triumphal arches of the elms.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
“The label of liberalism is hardly a sentence to public igominy: otherwise Bruce Springsteen would still be rehabilitating used Cadillacs in Asbury Park and Jane Fonda, for all we know, would be just another overweight housewife.”
—Barbara Ehrenreich (b. 1941)
“The spiritual kinship between Lincoln and Whitman was founded upon their Americanism, their essential Westernism. Whitman had grown up without much formal education; Lincoln had scarcely any education. One had become the notable poet of the day; one the orator of the Gettsyburg Address. It was inevitable that Whitman as a poet should turn with a feeling of kinship to Lincoln, and even without any association or contact feel that Lincoln was his.”
—Edgar Lee Masters (18691950)
