Structure
ZnS exists in two main crystalline forms, and this dualism is often a salient example of polymorphism. In both polymorphism, the coordination geometry at Zn and S are tetrahedral. The more stable cubic form is known also as zinc blende or sphalerite. The hexagonal form is known as the mineral wurtzite, although it also can be produced synthetically. The transition from the sphalerite form to the wurtzite form occurs at around 1020 celsius. A tetragonal form is also known as the very rare mineral called polhemusite, with the formula (Zn,Hg)S.

Famous quotes containing the word structure:
“Women over fifty already form one of the largest groups in the population structure of the western world. As long as they like themselves, they will not be an oppressed minority. In order to like themselves they must reject trivialization by others of who and what they are. A grown woman should not have to masquerade as a girl in order to remain in the land of the living.”
—Germaine Greer (b. 1939)
“Slumism is the pent-up anger of people living on the outside of affluence. Slumism is decay of structure and deterioration of the human spirit. Slumism is a virus which spreads through the body politic. As other isms, it breeds disorder and demagoguery and hate.”
—Hubert H. Humphrey (19111978)
“Im a Sunday School teacher, and Ive always known that the structure of law is founded on the Christian ethic that you shall love the Lord your God and your neighbor as yourselfa very high and perfect standard. We all know the fallibility of man, and the contentions in society, as described by Reinhold Niebuhr and many others, dont permit us to achieve perfection.”
—Jimmy Carter (James Earl Carter, Jr.)
