Virginia High School League

The Virginia High School League (VHSL) is the lone sole arbiter of interscholastic competition among Public High Schools in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Private or religious schools are prohibited from participating. Non-public schools belong to other organizations, the largest of which is the Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association. A 2008 proposal in the Virginia General Assembly to allow homeschooled "public square absent" students to compete failed to pass. The VHSL was not originally an athletics sanctioning body and continues to sponsor championships in several academic activities.

Famous quotes containing the words virginia, high, school and/or league:

Being blunt with your feelings is very American. In this big country, I can be as brash as New York, as hedonistic as Los Angeles, as sensuous as San Francisco, as brainy as Boston, as proper as Philadelphia, as brawny as Chicago, as warm as Palm Springs, as friendly as my adopted home town of Dallas, Fort Worth, and as peaceful as the inland waterway that rubs up against my former home in Virginia Beach.
    Martina Navratilova (b. 1956)

The most useful man in the most useful world, so long as only commodity was served, would remain unsatisfied. But, as fast as he sees beauty, life acquires a very high value.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

I seemed intent on making it as difficult for myself as possible to pursue my “male” career goal. I not only procrastinated endlessly, submitting my medical school application at the very last minute, but continued to crave a conventional female role even as I moved ahead with my “male” pursuits.
    Margaret S. Mahler (1897–1985)

We’re the victims of a disease called social prejudice, my child. These dear ladies of the law and order league are scouring out the dregs of the town. C’mon be a glorified wreck like me.
    Dudley Nichols (1895–1960)
