Vilamovian Language

Vilamovian or Wilamowicean (Wymysiöeryś) is a West Germanic language spoken in the small town of Wilamowice (Wymysoj in Vilamovian) near Bielsko-Biała, on the border between Silesia and Lesser Poland in the historical region of Galicia. At present, there are probably between 70 and 100 native users of Vilamovian, virtually all bi-lingual and the majority of them elderly people; Vilamovian is therefore a moribund language.

Famous quotes containing the word language:

What distinguished man from animals was the human capacity for symbolic thought, the capacity which was inseparable from the development of language in which words were not mere signals, but signifiers of something other than themselves. Yet the first symbols were animals. What distinguished men from animals was born of their relationship with them.
    John Berger (b. 1926)
