Famous quotes containing the words diplomatic and/or plates:
“Rome, like Washington, is small enough, quiet enough, for strong personal intimacies; Rome, like Washington, has its democratic court and its entourage of diplomatic circle; Rome, like Washington, gives you plenty of time and plenty of sunlight. In New York we have annihilated both.”
—M. E. W. Sherwood (18261903)
“I have experienced such simple delight in the trivial matters of fishing and sporting, formerly, as might have inspired the muse of Homer or Shakespeare; and now, when I turn the pages and ponder the plates of the Anglers Souvenir, I am fain to exclaim,
Can such things be,
And overcome us like a summers cloud?”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
