Difference Between Scalar and Vector Field

The difference between a scalar and vector field is not that a scalar is just one number while a vector is several numbers. A scalar is a coordinate whereas a vector can be described by coordinates, but it is not the collection of its coordinates.

Famous quotes containing the words difference between, difference and/or field:

I have always suspected that too much knowledge is a dangerous thing. It is a boon to people who don’t have deep feelings; their pleasure comes from what they know about things, and their pride from showing off what they know. But this only emphasizes the difference between the artist and the scholar.
    Margaret Anderson (1886–1973)

The difference between a photograph and even the most realistic painting—say, one of Courbet’s landscapes—is that in the latter there has been selection, emphasis and some discreet distortion. The painter’s deep instinctive feeling for mass and force has rearranged everything.
    Gerald Branan (1894–1987)

And there, a field rat, startled, squealing bleeds,
His belly close to ground. I see the blade,
Blood-stained, continue cutting weeds and shade.
    Jean Toomer (1894–1967)
