Simple Dreams

Simple Dreams is one of the most successful albums of Linda Ronstadt's nearly fifty-year career, spending five consecutive weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard album chart in late 1977. It was the disc that knocked Fleetwood Mac's 'Rumours' out of #1 after 29 record-breaking weeks in the pole position. It also knocked Elvis Presley out of No. 1 on Billboard's Country Albums chart. It won the Grammy Award for Best Album Package (in addition to several other Grammy nominations).

Simple Dreams was Ronstadt's fifth consecutive million-selling Platinum album and sold over 3½ million copies in less than a year in the United States alone – a record for a female artist.

Originally, the cover photograph had Linda dressed in a provocative and revealing mini-slip seated in front of multiple mirrors. Uncomfortable with the physical exposure, Linda changed into a colorful robe, and the picture was made artificially grainy. A re-touched outtake photo from the original photo sessions was belatedly included on the inner sleeve for her Platinum-plus Greatest Hits, Volume 2 album in 1980. At the 20th Grammy Awards, John Kosh won the Grammy Award for Best Recording Package for Simple Dreams.

This album has never been out of print in 35 years.

Famous quotes containing the words simple and/or dreams:

    It is a curious emotion, this certain homesickness I have in mind. With Americans, it is a national trait, as native to us as the rollercoaster or the jukebox. It is no simple longing for the home town or country of our birth. The emotion is Janus-faced: we are torn between a nostalgia for the familiar and an urge for the foreign and strange. As often as not, we are homesick most for the places we have never known.
    Carson McCullers (1917–1967)

    This is my home, the country where my heart is;
    Here are my hopes, my dreams, my holy shrine;
    But other hearts in other lands are beating
    With hopes and dreams as true and high as mine.
    Lloyd Stone (b. 1912)
