Hills, Plains and Rivers
The Sichuan Basin consists of low hills and alluvial plains, and several major rivers flow into the Chang Jiang (Yangtze River), which passes through the southern part of the basin. The seismically active Longmenshan Fault - the source of the catastrophic 2008 Sichuan earthquake - runs along the western boundary of the basin, separating it from the Tibetan plateau to the west.

Famous quotes containing the words plains and/or rivers:
“The Plains are not forgiving. Anything that is shallowthe easy optimism of a homesteader; the false hope that denies geography, climate, history; the tree whose roots dont reach ground waterwill dry up and blow away.”
—Kathleen Norris (b. 1947)
“Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly,
nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the
scornful.
But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he
meditate day and night.
And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that
bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither;
and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.”
—Bible: Hebrew Psalm I (l. I, 13)
