Schwartz Space

In mathematics, Schwartz space is the function space of functions all of whose derivatives are rapidly decreasing. This space has the important property that the Fourier transform is an automorphism on this space. This property enables one, by duality, to define the Fourier transform for elements in the dual space of S, that is, for tempered distributions. Schwartz space is named in honour of Laurent Schwartz. A function in the Schwartz space is sometimes called a Schwartz function.

Famous quotes containing the word space:

    I would have broke mine eye-strings, cracked them, but
    To look upon him, till the diminution
    Of space had pointed him sharp as my needle;
    Nay, followed him till he had melted from
    The smallness of a gnat to air, and then
    Have turned mine eye and wept.
    William Shakespeare (1564–1616)
