RNA Editing May Be Involved in RNA Degradation
A recent study looked at the involvement of RNA editing in RNA degradation. The researchers specifically looked at the interaction between ADAR1 and hUpf1, an enzyme involved in the nonsense-mediated mRNA decay pathway(NMD). They found that ADAR1 and hUpf1 are found within the suprasliceosome and they form a complex that leads to the down-regulation of specific genes. The exact mechanism or the exact pathways that these two are involved in are unknown at this time. The only fact that this research has shown is that they form a complex and down-regulate specific genes.

Famous quotes containing the words editing, involved and/or degradation:
“In this century the writer has carried on a conversation with madness. We might almost say of the twentieth-century writer that he aspires to madness. Some have made it, of course, and they hold special places in our regard. To a writer, madness is a final distillation of self, a final editing down. Its the drowning out of false voices.”
—Don Delillo (b. 1926)
“Tommy: Youre gonna have trouble with that one.
Milo: Oh no Im not. Hes just not housebroken yet, thats all.
Tommy: When are you going to stop getting yourself involved with young itinerant artists? It never works. If theyre no good, youre ashamed. And if they are, they get independent.”
—Alan Jay Lerner (19181986)
“History is nothing but a procession of false Absolutes, a series of temples raised to pretexts, a degradation of the mind before the Improbable.”
—E.M. Cioran (b. 1911)
