He was consul three times:
- 467 BC, with Tiberius Aemilius L.f. Mamercinus (Mamercus)
- 465 BC, with Titus Quinctius L.f. Capitolinus Barbatus
- 459 BC, with Lucius Cornelius Ser.f. Maluginensis Uritus (Cossus)
During his third consulate, he besieged Antium and helped the Tusculans to rescue their city occupied by the Aequi. In the end, he attacked the Aequi fleeing from Tusculum, killing many of them near Mons Algidus.
According to Livy, he was the only male to escape the slaughter of his gens at the Battle of the Cremera in 477 BC, since he was too young to be sent to war.
In 450 BC, Appius Claudius named him one of the second set of decemviri, ten men given absolute authority in Rome while they compiled Law of the Twelve Tables. Livy says that Fabius was easily corrupted by Appius and went from being a very good man to a very wicked one.
