Quaker Valley High School

Quaker Valley High School is a high school located in Leetsdale, Pennsylvania. Quaker Valley High School is one of the four National Blue Ribbon Schools that comprise the Quaker Valley School District.

The high school serves an average of 640 students in grades 9 through 12 and has a 99% graduation rate. Ninety percent of graduates go on to post secondary education at a two or four-year college or university.

Quaker Valley High School offers a college-preparatory core curriculum with elective courses.

In grade nine, students develop Pre-AP skills to prepare for the rigor of Honors and Advanced Placement courses. The AP program encompasses courses (17-20) in all subject areas, including the arts and world languages.

To enhance the Program of Studies, the school contracts with an online provider of curriculum. Students select from several additional Advanced Placement courses as part of or in addition to their six-period day.

Quaker Valley High School offers three College-in-High-School courses through the University of Pittsburgh, and has an active dual enrollment partnership with Community College of Allegheny College, Robert Morris University, the Art Institute of Pittsburgh, and Penn State Beaver. The Dual Enrollment program is facilitated by the Office of Collegiate Affairs.

As a highlight of the academic program, the Personal Project/Honors Personal Project, completed during the sophomore year, fulfills a graduation requirement and provides students with the opportunity to work over several months in an area of personal interest with an adult mentor. Students pursue topics as diverse as their personalities and talents. This credited research experience results in a product, a presentation to a faculty panel, and a reflective paper emphasizing the learning process.

Famous quotes containing the words high school, quaker, valley, high and/or school:

Someday soon, we hope that all middle and high school will have required courses in child rearing for girls and boys to help prepare them for one of the most important and rewarding tasks of their adulthood: being a parent. Most of us become parents in our lifetime and it is not acceptable for young people to be steeped in ignorance or questionable folklore when they begin their critical journey as mothers and fathers.
    James P. Comer (20th century)

this old Quaker graveyard where the bones
Cry out in the long night for the hurt beast
Bobbing by Ahab’s whaleboats in the East.
    Robert Lowell (1917–1977)

How old the world is! I walk between two eternities.... What is my fleeting existence in comparison with that decaying rock, that valley digging its channel ever deeper, that forest that is tottering and those great masses above my head about to fall? I see the marble of tombs crumbling into dust; and yet I don’t want to die!
    Denis Diderot (1713–1784)

... by and large, wife-changing and high office are not compatible. This inequity accounts for the many dull women in Washington and is the cause of much smug complacency on the distaff side of political marriages.
    Barbara Howar (b. 1934)

Bodily offspring I do not leave, but mental offspring I do. Well, my books do not have to be sent to school and college, and then insist on going into the church, or take to drinking, or marry their mother’s maid.
    Samuel Butler (1835–1902)
