Public Notice - By Government

By Government

Public notices are issued by a government agency or legislative body in certain rulemaking or lawmaking proceeding.

It is a requirement in most jurisdictions, in order to allow members of the public to make their opinions on proposals known before a rule or law is made.

For local government, public notice is often given by those seeking a liquor license, a rezoning or variance, or other minor approval which must be granted by a city council, county commission, or board of supervisors.

Famous quotes containing the word government:

The Republican form of government is the highest form of government; but because of this it requires the highest type of human nature—a type nowhere at present existing.
    Herbert Spencer (1820–1903)

I do not hesitate to say, that those who call themselves Abolitionists should at once effectually withdraw their support, both in person and property, from the government of Massachusetts, and not wait until they constitute a majority of one, before they suffer the right to prevail through them. I think that it is enough if they have God on their side, without waiting for that other one. Moreover, any man more right than his neighbors constitutes a majority of one already.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)
