Famous quotes containing the words fixed, price, free and/or systems:
“Indeed, I thought, slipping the silver into my purse ... what a change of temper a fixed income will bring about. No force in the world can take from me my five hundred pounds. Food, house and clothing are mine for ever. Therefore not merely do effort and labour cease, but also hatred and bitterness. I need not hate any man; he cannot hurt me. I need not flatter any man; he has nothing to give me.”
—Virginia Woolf (18821941)
“The price on the wanted
poster was a-going down, outlaw alias copped my stance
and moody greenhorns were making me dance; while my mouths
shooting iron got its chambers jammed.”
—Ishmael Reed (b. 1938)
“You only have power over people so long as you dont take everything away from them. But when youve robbed a man of everything hes no longer in your powerhes free again.”
—Alexander Solzhenitsyn (b. 1918)
“The only people who treasure systems are those whom the whole truth evades, who want to catch it by the tail. A system is just like truths tail, but the truth is like a lizard. It will leave the tail in your hand and escape; it knows that it will soon grow another tail.”
—Ivan Sergeevich Turgenev (18181883)
