Plaquette

Plaquette is a term for a small plaque, especially small relief sculptures in bronze or other materials, often made to be hung on walls. These were popular in the Italian Renaissance and later. They have always been closely related to the medal, and many awards today are in the form of plaquettes. The so-called death penny minted after World War I is a Twentieth Century example.
