Open University in The Netherlands - Students

Students

People from all walks of life and all ages take advantage of the Open Universiteit. There are no entry requirements other than the ability to study at an appropriate level. The Open Universiteit is especially popular with those who cannot physically attend a traditional university (because they are disabled, abroad, in prison, or serving in the armed forces), or who wish to study a first (or additional) degree while holding down a full-time job, whether to progress their career or allow them to change their career. About 70% of the students remain in paid employment throughout their studies.

Famous quotes containing the word students:

If we became students of Malcolm X, we would not have young black men out there killing each other like they’re killing each other now. Young black men would not be impregnating young black women at the rate going on now. We’d not have the drugs we have now, or the alcoholism.
    Spike Lee (b. 1956)

President Lowell of Harvard appealed to students ‘to prepare themselves for such services as the Governor may call upon them to render.’ Dean Greenough organized an ‘emergency committee,’ and Coach Fisher was reported by the press as having declared, ‘To hell with football if men are needed.’
—For the State of Massachusetts, U.S. public relief program (1935-1943)

A complacent old Don of Divinity
Used to boast of his daughter’s virginity:
    “They must have been dawdlin’,
    The students of Magdalen—
It couldn’t have happened at Trinity.”
