Nusaybin

Nusaybin (Akkadian: Naṣibina; classical Nisibis; Syriac: ܢܨܝܒܝܢ, Niṣībīn; Armenian: Մծբին, Mtsbin; Kurdish: Nisêbîn) is a city in Mardin Province, Turkey, populated by Kurds. Earlier Arameans, Arabs, Mhallamis, Assyrians and Armenians lived in the city. The population of the city is 83,832 as of 2009. The neighboring Syrian city of Qamishli is basically an extension of the city of Nisibin, and now the more populous section. Were it not for the international borders between Syria and Turkey running in the middle of the urban area, the two would make one city—the modern inheritor of the ancient and prestigious city of Nisibis.
