Non-Uniform Memory Access - NUMA Vs. Cluster Computing

NUMA Vs. Cluster Computing

One can view NUMA as a very tightly coupled form of cluster computing. The addition of virtual memory paging to a cluster architecture can allow the implementation of NUMA entirely in software where no NUMA hardware exists. However, the inter-node latency of software-based NUMA remains several orders of magnitude greater than that of hardware-based NUMA.

Famous quotes containing the word cluster:

In a sense the world dies every time a writer dies, because, if he is any good, he has been a wet nurse to humanity during his entire existence and has held earth close around him, like the little obstetrical toad that goes about with a cluster of eggs attached to his legs.
