Nemanja

Nemanja

Nemanja (Serbian: Немања) is an old name of Serbian and Slavic origin, most likely meaning "without possessions", derived from Serbian "nemati" for "to have not". The name was borne by the founding father of the Nemanjic dynasty, Stefan Nemanja (1114–1199), a Serbian king who was venerated as a saint after his death. Another possible meaning meaning "lure" or "attract" as a negative of a Serbian verb "mamiti", which loosely translates as "unattractive".
