Meteorite Fall
Meteorite falls, also called observed falls, are those meteorites that were collected after that their fall was witnessed by people or automated devices as they moved through the atmosphere or hit the Earth. All other meteorites are called "finds". As of June 2012, there are about 1,103 documented falls that are listed in widely-used databases, most of which have specimens in modern collections.

Famous quotes containing the word fall:
“Missionaries, whether of philosophy or religion, rarely make rapid way, unless their preachings fall in with the prepossessions of the multitude of shallow thinkers, or can be made to serve as a stalking-horse for the promotion of the practical aims of the still larger multitude, who do not profess to think much, but are quite certain they want a great deal.”
—Thomas Henry Huxley (182595)
