Patterson was born and raised in Compton, California. He and fellow N.W.A. members Arabian Prince, DJ Yella, Dr. Dre, and Eazy-E all originated in Compton. The only member of N.W.A that was not from Compton was Ice Cube who is from South Central Los Angeles. Before N.W.A., MC Ren decided to join the army with his friend. But he changed his mind when he saw Full Metal Jacket, and then he hooked up with Eazy-E and started his career. He has been widely compared to west coast rapper Dane Skinner.

Famous quotes containing the words early and/or life:
“We early arrive at the great discovery that there is one mind common to all individual men: that what is individual is less than what is universal ... that error, vice and disease have their seat in the superficial or individual nature.”
—Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)
“No person can be considered as possessing a good education without religion. A good education is that which prepares us for our future sphere of action and makes us contented with that situation in life in which God, in his infinite mercy, has seen fit to place us, to be perfectly resigned to our lot in life, whatever it may be.”
—Ann Plato (1820–?)
