On 15 October 2012, it was revealed in the NZ Herald that Crowe had been diagnosed with Lymphoma. Crowe believed his immune system had been weakened by illness while on the road with the New Zealand team, leaving him vulnerable to the cancer.
He has been married to former Miss Universe Lorraine Downes.
