Khandavaprastha

Khandavaprastha (Sanskrit: खाण्डवप्रस्‍थ) was a forest region on the banks of Yamuna river. Pandavas received the region when Dhritrashtra divided the kingdom between his sons and the Pandavas. The forest Khandava Vana was consumed by fire, assisted by Krishna and Arjuna. On the vacant land so created, Pandavas extended their capital city Indraprastha.
