Famous quotes containing the words iron, arrow, honor and/or society:

    When Sheba was his lass,
When she the iron wrought, or
    When from the smithy fire
    It shuddered in the water:
    Harshness of their desire
That made them stretch and yawn....
    William Butler Yeats (1865–1939)

... and the next summer she died in childbirth.
That’s all. Of course, there may be some sort of sequel but it is not known to me. In such cases instead of getting bogged down in guesswork, I repeat the words of the merry king in my favorite fairy tale: Which arrow flies for ever? The arrow that has hit its mark.
    Vladimir Nabokov (1899–1977)

We honor motherhood with glowing sentimentality, but we don’t rate it high on the scale of creative occupations.
    Leontine Young (20th century)

Solitude is impractical, and society fatal. We must keep our head in the one and our hands in the other. The conditions are met, if we keep our independence, yet do not lose our sympathy.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)
