Examples of Ideal Class Groups

  • The rings Z, Z, and Z, where ω is a cube root of 1 and i is a fourth root of 1 (i.e. a square root of −1), are all principal ideal domains, and so have class number 1: that is, they have trivial ideal class groups.

Famous quotes containing the words examples of, examples, ideal, class and/or groups:

There are many examples of women that have excelled in learning, and even in war, but this is no reason we should bring ‘em all up to Latin and Greek or else military discipline, instead of needle-work and housewifry.
    Bernard Mandeville (1670–1733)

In the examples that I here bring in of what I have [read], heard, done or said, I have refrained from daring to alter even the smallest and most indifferent circumstances. My conscience falsifies not an iota; for my knowledge I cannot answer.
    Michel de Montaigne (1533–1592)

An ideal is merely the projection, on an enormously enlarged scale, of some aspect of personality.
    Aldous Huxley (1894–1963)

    Mary Putnam Jacobi (1842–1906)

These form a permanent committee who sit on each other’s affairs, who “come out” together, marry and divorce together, and who end as those groups of bustling, heartless well-informed club-women who govern society. Against them the Couple of Ehepaar is helpless and Man in their eyes but a biological interlude.
    Cyril Connolly (1903–1974)
