Gunpei Yokoi - Death

Death

On October 4, 1997, while driving on the Hokuriku Expressway with his associate Etsuo Kiso, Yokoi rear-ended a truck driven by Takashi Okushima. After the two men had left the car to inspect the damage, Yokoi was hit and fatally injured by two passing cars. Contrary to urban legends of foul play, the driver of one of the passenger cars that hit Yokoi in the second accident was Gen Tsushima, a member of the tourism industry. Yokoi was pronounced dead two hours later.

Famous quotes containing the word death:

    ‘Lay me a green sod under my head,
    And another at my feet;
    And lay my bent bow at my side,
    Which was my music sweet;
    And make my grave of gravel and green,
    Which is most right and meet.
    —Unknown. Robin Hood’s Death (l. 65–70)

    As for death one gets used to it, even if it’s only other people’s death you get used to.
    Enid Bagnold (1889–1981)

    For who shall defile the temples of the ancient gods, a cruel and violent death shall be his fate, and never shall his soul find rest unto eternity. Such is the curse of Amon-Ra, king of all the gods.
