Four Pillars of The Green Party

The Four Pillars of the Green Party are a foundational statement of Green politics and form the basis of many worldwide Green parties. The Four Pillars are:

  • Ecological wisdom
  • Social justice
  • Grassroots democracy
  • Nonviolence

Different Green Parties that list the Four Pillars phrase them somewhat differently. In general, the four pillars define a Green Party as a political movement that interrelates its philosophy from four different social movements, the peace movement, the civil rights movement, the environmental movement, and the labour movement.

Famous quotes containing the words pillars, green and/or party:

But let my due feet never fail
To walk the studious cloister’s pale,
And love the high embowed roof,
    With antic pillars massy proof,
    And storied windows richly dight,
    Casting a dim, religious light.
    John Milton (1608–1674)

Bring me my Bow of burning gold:
Bring me my Arrows of desire:
Bring me my Spear: O clouds unfold!
Bring me my Chariot of fire!

I will not cease from Mental Fight,
Nor shall my Sword sleep in my hand,
    Till we have built Jerusalem
In England’s green & pleasant Land.
    William Blake (1757–1827)

Whether a party can have much success without a woman present I must ask others to decide, but one thing is certain, no party is any fun unless seasoned with folly.
    Desiderius Erasmus (c. 1466–1536)
