Film Unit - History

History

Film Unit joined the BFFS in 1950, although it is likely that the Film Unit society was formed before this, and it is believed too that it pre-dates the BFFS. Film Unit also holds the copyright of a title shot in 1960, held in the University's archives. There is also a title shot in 1965 by "SUSU Film Society/Film Unit".

Film Unit used to show films in the Graves Building, part of the Union building. In 1996, a new auditorium was opened, and became the new home of Film Unit; it is also used as a lecture theatre.

Over the past, the members have been formed primarily from members of USIT, which folded in 2003.

Famous quotes containing the word history:

The foregoing generations beheld God and nature face to face; we, through their eyes. Why should not we also enjoy an original relation to the universe? Why should not we have a poetry and philosophy of insight and not of tradition, and a religion by revelation to us, and not the history of theirs?
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

There is a constant in the average American imagination and taste, for which the past must be preserved and celebrated in full-scale authentic copy; a philosophy of immortality as duplication. It dominates the relation with the self, with the past, not infrequently with the present, always with History and, even, with the European tradition.
    Umberto Eco (b. 1932)

The greatest honor history can bestow is that of peacemaker.
    Richard M. Nixon (1913–1995)
