Film Unit

Film Unit is a professional quality independent cinema and Film society located deep within the University of Sheffield Union of Students and run entirely by volunteers, usually members of the University of Sheffield, although occasionally Alumni of the university (usually members of Film Unit as students) and Sheffield Hallam University students also make up committee and house staff. The cinema shows over 100 films a year.

It is classed within the Union as a Working Committee, as it provides a service to all students, and not merely its members (as a society does).

Famous quotes containing the words film and/or unit:

To read a newspaper for the first time is like coming into a film that has been on for an hour. Newspapers are like serials. To understand them you have to take knowledge to them; the knowledge that serves best is the knowledge provided by the newspaper itself.
    —V.S. (Vidiadhar Surajprasad)

During the Suffragette revolt of 1913 I ... [urged] that what was needed was not the vote, but a constitutional amendment enacting that all representative bodies shall consist of women and men in equal numbers, whether elected or nominated or coopted or registered or picked up in the street like a coroner’s jury. In the case of elected bodies the only way of effecting this is by the Coupled Vote. The representative unit must not be a man or a woman but a man and a woman.
    George Bernard Shaw (1856–1950)
