Donatello (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) - Personality

Personality

Donatello, also known as Don or Donnie, is the most intelligent and peaceful of the turtles. Although he is, like his brothers, an extremely capable ninja, Don prefers studying mechanics rather than practicing ninjitsu. He possesses an incredible knowledge of machinery, even being able to solve problems with technology from a different planet or even a different dimension which was shown in the 2003 series. Don is quite simply a genius, although his brothers often tease him about his intelligence. Don takes their teasing in his stride and rarely loses his temper unlike Raphael. He is generally portrayed as being quiet and withdrawn, preferring to be in the company of machines rather than living beings. However he loved his brothers, his adopted father Splinter, and his friends and was often seen joking with them and aiding them either with his knowledge or his physical prowess. He was fiercely protective of his loved ones and although he disliked fighting, he would fight to his last breath to protect them,he also has a platonic relationship with April in the 2003 series.

Donatello seems to hold together and this was highlighted in the 2003 series during which he was once mutated (again) into a ferocious beast who was unable to recognise even the people he was closest to. Without his knowledge, the turtles were forced to turn to two of their enemies, Agent Bishop and Baxter Stockman, for assistance. Another example of this was when he was sent into an alternate reality where the Shredder ruled the world, Splinter and Casey were both dead and the turtles had fallen apart. Don managed to reunite the future versions of his brothers and although all three of his siblings were killed, he defeated Shredder before being returned to his own time and preventing the events from ever happening.

Donatello wielded a bo staff in combat. As he was frequently the most hesitant to fight, Donatello was arguably the weakest fighter out of the four turtles but still a devastating opponent when necessary. He was still able to easily fend off a wide variety of enemies on countless occasions, even if seriously outnumbered, when the situation demanded action.

Famous quotes containing the word personality:

We have no higher life that is really apart from other people. It is by imagining them that our personality is built up; to be without the power of imagining them is to be a low-grade idiot.
    Charles Horton Cooley (1864–1929)

The habit some writers indulge in of perpetual quotation is one it behoves lovers of good literature to protest against, for it is an insidious habit which in the end must cloud the stream of thought, or at least check spontaneity. If it be true that le style c’est l’homme, what is likely to happen if l’homme is for ever eking out his own personality with that of some other individual?
    Dame Ethel Smyth (1858–1944)
