Diatomic Molecule - Energy Levels

Energy Levels

It is convenient, and common, to represent a diatomic molecule as two point masses (the two atoms) connected by a massless spring. The energies involved in the various motions of the molecule can then be broken down into three categories.

  • The translational energies
  • The rotational energies
  • The vibrational energies

Famous quotes containing the words energy and/or levels:

But often the presence of mind and energy of a person remote from the spotlight decide the course of history for centuries to come.
    Stefan Zweig (18811942)

Pushkin’s composition is first of all and above all a phenomenon of style, and it is from this flowered rim that I have surveyed its seep of Arcadian country, the serpentine gleam of its imported brooks, the miniature blizzards imprisoned in round crystal, and the many-hued levels of literary parody blending in the melting distance.
    Vladimir Nabokov (1899–1977)
