David Stirling - Undermining Trade Unionism

Undermining Trade Unionism

During the mid to late 1970s David Stirling created a secret organisation designed to undermine trade unionism from within.

He recruited like minded individuals from within the trade union movement, the express intention that they should cause as much trouble during conferences as permissible. One such member was Kate Losinska who was Head of the Civil and Public Services Association. Funding for this "operation" came primarily from his friend James Goldsmith.

Famous quotes containing the words undermining, trade and/or unionism:

    Sole and self-commanded works,
    Fears not undermining days,
    Grows by decays,
And, by the famous might that lurks
    In reaction and recoil,
Makes flames to freeze, and ice to boil.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

Until the end of the Middle Ages, and in many cases afterwards too, in order to obtain initiation in a trade of any sort whatever—whether that of courtier, soldier, administrator, merchant or workman—a boy did not amass the knowledge necessary to ply that trade before entering it, but threw himself into it; he then acquired the necessary knowledge.
    Philippe Ariés (20th century)

What is Virtue but the Trade Unionism of the married?
    George Bernard Shaw (1856–1950)
