Bundang Line

The Bundang Line is a commuter subway line of Korail, the national railway of South Korea. The name 'Bundang Line' refers to the fact that the line was constructed for the commuters of Bundang district in Seongnam. The line starts in central eastern Seoul at Wangsimni, travels through northern Seongnam, and finally reaches the northern end of Yongin.

Originally opened in September 1994 between Suseo and Ori, it was extended from Suseo to Seolleung in September 2003. On November 26, 2004, a temporary terminal station called Bojeong was opened near the Bundang Line Train Depot. On December 24, 2007, Jukjeon Station was opened between Ori and Bojeong Stations. On December 28, 2011, a new Bojeong station, as well as Guseong, Singal, and Giheung stations were opened. Lastly, a northern extension to Wangsimni Station was opened October 6th, 2012.

A southern extension to Giheung ending in a transfer to the EverLine Rapid Transit System was completed by the Bundang Line but the transfer has not be completed as the EverLine has yet to open due to construction and ongoing litigation. Other than the EverLine the extension provides another commuter railway service to the city of Suwon, in which the extension ends at Suwon Station, interchangeable with Gyeongbu Line with its commuter service connected to Line 1, and also KTX services.

Famous quotes containing the word line:

This is something that I cannot get over—that a whole line could be written by half a man, that a work could be built on the quicksand of a character.
    Karl Kraus (1874–1936)
