Facts
Jean-Marc Bosman was a player for RFC Liège in the Belgian First Division in Belgium whose contract had expired in 1990. He wanted to change teams and move to Dunkerque, a French team. However, Dunkerque refused to meet his Belgian club's transfer fee demand, so Liège refused to let him go.
In the meantime, Bosman's wages were reduced as he was no longer a first-team player. He took his case to the European Court of Justice in Luxembourg and sued for restraint of trade citing FIFA's rules regarding football, specifically Article 17.

Famous quotes containing the word facts:
“Now what I want is, Facts. Teach these boys and girls nothing but Facts. Facts alone are wanted in life. Plant nothing else, and root out everything else. You can only form the minds of reasoning animals upon Facts: nothing else will ever be of service to them.”
—Charles Dickens (18121870)
“A radical is one of whom people say He goes too far. A conservative, on the other hand, is one who doesnt go far enough. Then there is the reactionary, one who doesnt go at all. All these terms are more or less objectionable, wherefore we have coined the term progressive. I should say that a progressive is one who insists upon recognizing new facts as they present themselvesone who adjusts legislation to these new facts.”
—Woodrow Wilson (18561924)
“All public facts are to be individualized, all private facts are to be generalized.”
—Ralph Waldo Emerson (18031882)
