He died on the morning of 30 December 2010, in a hotel in Saint Petersburg, due to heart failure. His agent John Seine said Farrell was complaining of breathing problems after performing with his band the evening before. Farrell's body was reportedly discovered by hotel staff after he failed to respond to an alarm call. He was buried at Zorgvlied cemetery.

His daughter Zanillya Farrell is a rapper. In December 2011, she won the national music prize Grote Prijs van Nederland in the hip hop category.

Famous quotes containing the words years and/or death:

    Porter: O.K., O.K., you win. I’ll marry you. How ‘bout it?
    Lora May: Thanks. For nuthin’.
    Porter: Now what kind of an answer is that?
    Lora May: I don’t know. I just felt like it, that’s all.
    Porter: We’ll do all right, kid. We’re startin’ out where it takes most marriages years to get.
    Joseph L. Mankiewicz (1909–1993)

    Nor has his death the world deceiv’d
    Less than his wondrous life surpriz’d;
    For if he like a madman liv’d
    At least he like a wise one dy’d.
    Miguel De Cervantes (1547–1616)
