Barlas

The Barlas (Chagatay/Persian: برلاس‎ - Barlās; also Berlas; Mongolian: Barlas) were a Mongol - later Turkicized ("Turko-Mongol") - nomadic confederation in Central Asia. Its most famous representatives were the Timurids, a dynasty founded by the militant conqueror Timur (Tamerlane) in the 14th century. This association made them the chief tribe of the Timurid Empire who ruled much of Central Asia, Iran, and South Asia in the Middle Ages.
