Varieties
The varieties are as follows:
- Alyawarr (Alyawarra)
- Anmatjirra (Anmatyerre)
- Antekerrepenhe (Andegerebinha)
- Aritinngithigh
- Ayerrerenge (Ayerreyenge)
- Eastern Aranda (Ikngerripenhe) and Central Aranda (Mparntwe Arrernte; east of Alic Springs)
- Western Aranda (Tyuretye Arrernte, Arrernte Alturlerenj; west of Alice Springs)
- Lower Aranda (Lower Southern, Alenjerntarpe)
A Southern Aranda (Pertame) is listed by Dixon, but not by Bowern, who also lumps together Central and Eastern.
There is much debate on whether these are dialects of an Aranda language, or separate languages, both among linguists and among the Arrernte people themselves.
