25 Greatest Players In PBA History

The 25 Greatest Players in Philippine Basketball Association History were chosen in 2000 to honor the twenty-fifth anniversary of the founding of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA). The awards were given by the league during a silver anniversary special held at the Araneta Coliseum on April 9, 2000. In addition, the four Grand Slam head coaches, the founding Board of Governors and past commissioners were honored during the event.

The following criteria were used by a committee in selecting players for this list:

  • The player must have played at least four (4) full seasons with the league.
  • The player must be a recipient of a major award (either a MVP or Rookie of the Year awardee or a member of the mythical selection, or all-defensive teams)
  • The player must have done a major impact with the sport and the league.
  • The player must have contributed towards the positive development of basketball in the country.

Famous quotes containing the words greatest, players and/or history:

The greatest step forward would be to see that everything factual is already theory. The blueness of the sky reveals the basic law of chromatics. Don’t look for anything behind the phenomena, they themselves are the doctrine.
    Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe (1749–1832)

People stress the violence. That’s the smallest part of it. Football is brutal only from a distance. In the middle of it there’s a calm, a tranquility. The players accept pain. There’s a sense of order even at the end of a running play with bodies stewn everywhere. When the systems interlock, there’s a satisfaction to the game that can’t be duplicated. There’s a harmony.
    Don Delillo (b. 1926)

No one is ahead of his time, it is only that the particular variety of creating his time is the one that his contemporaries who are also creating their own time refuse to accept.... For a very long time everybody refuses and then almost without a pause almost everybody accepts. In the history of the refused in the arts and literature the rapidity of the change is always startling.
    Gertrude Stein (1874–1946)
