2019 Asian Games

The 2019 Asian Games, officially known as XVIII Asiad, is the largest sporting event in Asia governed by Olympic Council of Asia (OCA). It will be hosted by Hanoi, Vietnam, as announced on November 8, 2012 in Macau, after beating Surabaya, Indonesia, while the other candidate, Dubai, United Arab Emirates, pulled out at last minute.

Originally, the Games were scheduled for 2018. However, in the Olympic Council of Asia's general assembly in Singapore on July 3, 2009, the committee decided to move the Games within one year before the Summer Olympics, this meant that the 18th Asian Games will now be held in 2019.

Famous quotes containing the words asian and/or games:

We are not about to send American boys 9 or 10,000 miles away from home to do what Asian boys ought to be doing for themselves.
    Lyndon Baines Johnson (1908–1973)

In 1600 the specialization of games and pastimes did not extend beyond infancy; after the age of three or four it decreased and disappeared. From then on the child played the same games as the adult, either with other children or with adults. . . . Conversely, adults used to play games which today only children play.
    Philippe Ariés (20th century)
