2003 MTV Europe Music Awards

The UK hosted the Europe Music Award’s for the second time in 2003. Host Christina Aguilera changed costumes a whopping 12 times and opened the show in a Nun's habit. The event was held at Ocean Terminal, Edinburgh, under a specially constructed tent with the Edinburgh Castle as its backdrop.

On the night Justin Timberlake walked away with a total of three awards – Best Male, Best Pop and Best Album.

Beyoncé opened the show in spectacular style, taking to the stage upside down from the ceiling singing "Baby Boy" alongside rapper Sean Paul. Missy Elliott rapped her way through "Work it"/"Pass That Dutch" and The White Stripes performed their track "Seven Nation Army".

Presenters on the night included Andre 3000, Justin Timberlake, The Black Eyed Peas and Ludacris.

Highlights included Christina Aguilera and Kelly Osbourne feud, Justin Timberlake jumping on stage for an improvised performance with The Black Eyed Peas and Beyoncé's "ring of fire" malfunction, which led to a re-recording of her performance at the end of the show for the TV version.

Famous quotes containing the words europe and/or music:

We are participants, whether we would or not, in the life of the world.... We are partners with the rest. What affects mankind is inevitably our affair as well as the nations of Europe and Asia.
    Woodrow Wilson (1856–1924)

Orpheus with his lute made trees
And the mountain tops that freeze
Bow themselves when he did sing.
To his music plants and flowers
Ever sprung, as sun and showers
There had made a lasting spring.
    William Shakespeare (1564–1616)
