Cultural and Literary References
The 1991 movie Naked Tango by Leonard Schrader alludes to the activities of Zwi Migdal. The film's heroine assumes the identity of an Eastern European woman traveling to Buenos Aires to meet a prospective husband and in the process gets herself caught up in the prostitution network. The film, however, is motivated more by sensationalism than by indignation. Zwi Migdal was featured in I.B. Singer's "Scum" and Sholem Aleichem's "The Man from Buenos Aires."

Famous quotes containing the words cultural and/or literary:
“The beginning of Canadian cultural nationalism was not Am I really that oppressed? but Am I really that boring?”
—Margaret Atwood (b. 1939)
“Platowho may have understood better what forms the mind of man than do some of our contemporaries who want their children exposed only to real people and everyday eventsknew what intellectual experience made for true humanity. He suggested that the future citizens of his ideal republic begin their literary education with the telling of myths, rather than with mere facts or so-called rational teachings.”
—Bruno Bettelheim (20th century)
