Zip Zabel

George Washington (Zip) Zabel (February 18, 1891, Wetmore, Kansas—May 31, 1970, Beloit, Wisconsin) was a professional baseball pitcher. He played all or part of three seasons in Major League Baseball in 1913-15 for the Chicago Cubs.

Zabel attended Baker University, in Baldwin City, Kansas.

On June 17, 1915, Zabel set the record for most innings pitched in relief in one game. He came into the game in relief for Bert Humphries with two out in the first inning, and pitched the final 18⅓ innings to earn the win over the Brooklyn Dodgers and opposing pitcher Jeff Pfeffer, who pitched the complete game.
