The Zhubov scale is a way of reporting polar sea ice coverage, it was developed in the former USSR by Russian naval officer N. N. Zhubov (1895 - 1960).
The Zhubov scale is measured using the unit ball, one ball equals 10% coverage, five balls 50% coverage and so on.
Famous quotes containing the word scale:
“There is something in us, somehow, that, in the most degraded condition, we snatch at a chance to deceive ourselves into a fancied superiority to others, whom we suppose lower in the scale than ourselves.”
—Herman Melville (18191891)
