Zendstation Smilde - Fire and Collapse

Fire and Collapse

On 15 July 2011, the antenna section caught fire and collapsed, leaving only the concrete base standing.

In the above mentioned report a warning was given that there was an increased risk of accidents in the masts, mainly because of the complex ownership structure and that because of that (safety) processes were unclear. An investigation by the Dutch police didn't show any (criminal) negligence or other factors that could have caused the fire.

Famous quotes containing the words fire and, fire and/or collapse:

Where two raging fires meet together,
They do consume the thing that feeds their fury.

Yet extreme gusts will blow out fire and all.
    William Shakespeare (1564–1616)

When there was no more lantern in the kitchen,
The fire got out through crannies in the stove
And danced in yellow wrigglers on the ceiling,
As much at home as if they’d always danced there.
    Robert Frost (1874–1963)

The Roman world is in collapse but we do not bend our neck.
    Jerome (c. 340–420)
