Department of Electronics Engineering
The Department of Electronics Engineering was formally created in February 1988 on a proposal submitted by the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), Aligarh, to the University Grants Commission. In its original recommendations, the Faculty had submitted proposals for a comprehensive Programme in Electronics Engineering catering to the requirements in the area at the Undergraduate (UG), Postgraduate (PG), and research levels. These proposals were basically made in view of the national requirements in the thrust area of electronics, and after taking into consideration the availability of a strong infrastructure in this area at the Aligarh Muslim University. The expert committee of the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), Northern Region, visited the university on 19th August 1986 and examined the proposals for the creation of new department.
On the recommendations of this committee and subsequent sanction of the UGC (under VII Plan), a Bachelor’s degree Programme (with an intake of 30 students diverted from the Electrical Engineering Department) was started, with the name “Department of Electronics Engineering”.
During the short span and with limited resources at its command, the department had made remarkable progress in terms of developing infrastructure, updating course structure and syllabi and upgrading laboratories to the level comparable with those of the best institutions of the country. These have been achieved by adapting a need based continual evaluating policy from the day of its inception, and in order to impart knowledge to the students about the latest developments in Electronics Engineering & Technology.
Our UG and PG students are well placed in reputed Govt. Organizations through UPSC, in public, private and multinational companies and are doing extremely well. The highly qualified staff members have published/contributed large number of high quality research papers in international and national journals and in conferences of repute.
The faculty has supervised a good number of Ph.D. thesis, M.Tech. Dissertations and undergraduate projects. In addition, the department has floated a number of projects to the funding agencies. It has already been awarded financial assistance by various agencies including DRDO, MHRD, AICTE, UGC and CSIR etc.
Thrust Area Of The Department
Although the department is putting all the sincere effort to grow in multi dimensions in several areas of Electronics Engineering but some of the identified thrust areas are,
Exploring novel algorithms and architectures for wired and wireless multimedia for various applications Strengthening Research activities VLSI Design
Low power Design SoC and NoC Design issues in Deep submicron Novel and energy efficient FPGA architectures
Audio & Speech Processing Image and Video Coding Video streaming
RF Design & Transceiver algorithms Multimedia over wireless New wireless systems and application

Famous quotes containing the words department of, department, electronics and/or engineering:
“I believe in women; and in their right to their own best possibilities in every department of life. I believe that the methods of dress practiced among women are a marked hindrance to the realization of these possibilities, and should be scorned or persuaded out of society.”
—Elizabeth Stuart Phelps (18441911)
“... the Department of Justice is committed to asking one central question of everything we do: What is the right thing to do? Now that can produce debate, and I want it to be spirited debate. I want the lawyers of America to be able to call me and tell me: Janet, have you lost your mind?”
—Janet Wood Reno (b. 1938)
“We live in a highly industrialized society and every member of the Black nation must be as academically and technologically developed as possible. To wage a revolution, we need competent teachers, doctors, nurses, electronics experts, chemists, biologists, physicists, political scientists, and so on and so forth. Black women sitting at home reading bedtime stories to their children are just not going to make it.”
—Frances Beale, African American feminist and civil rights activist. The Black Woman, ch. 14 (1970)
“Mining today is an affair of mathematics, of finance, of the latest in engineering skill. Cautious men behind polished desks in San Francisco figure out in advance the amount of metal to a cubic yard, the number of yards washed a day, the cost of each operation. They have no need of grubstakes.”
—Merle Colby, U.S. public relief program (1935-1943)
