Zach Walters - Professional Career

Professional Career

Walters' professional career began in ordinary fashion with two wins, followed by two no contests, then a loss in his eighth fight. Walters pulled it together, though, and strung together ten straight wins before losing again to Hugo Pineda. Walters soldiered on, and after six more consecutive wins, was given a shot at the vacant WBC African Boxing Union Light Heavyweight championship, a minor title. Walters' original announced opponent was Marlon Hayes, but Hayes pulled out and was replaced by Carl Daniels. The fight took place on February 23, 2008, and resulted in an 8th-round retirement by Daniels; a TKO win for Walters. On June 7, 2008 Walters defeated Aaron Norwood by second round knockout. In so doing, Walters claimed his second minor regional title, the NABA light heavyweight belt. In his most recent bout, Walters lost to tough journeyman Shawn Hammack in a bout that he seemed to be well on his way to winning, getting caught in the final round and stopped with 30 seconds to go. On January 7, 2009 it was reported that Walters had signed a contract to fight former two-time world champion Byron Mitchell on February 20 in Buffalo, New York.

Walters' record to date is 23-3 with 18 wins by knockout.

Famous quotes containing the words professional and/or career:

If I’d written all the truth I knew for the past ten years, about 600 people—including me—would be rotting in prison cells from Rio to Seattle today. Absolute truth is a very rare and dangerous commodity in the context of professional journalism.
    Hunter S. Thompson (b. 1939)

Like the old soldier of the ballad, I now close my military career and just fade away, an old soldier who tried to do his duty as God gave him the light to see that duty. Goodbye.
    Douglas MacArthur (1880–1964)
