In Fiction

In Luo Guanzhong's historical novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms, Yu was one of the scholars who argued with Zhuge Liang during the latter's visit to Eastern Wu to form an alliance between Liu Bei and Sun Quan. In another incident, when Zhou Tai was seriously wounded in battle, Yu recommended the physician Hua Tuo to heal Zhou. Yu also contributed during Lü Meng's invasion of Jing Province by persuading Guan Yu's subordinate Fu Shiren to defect to Sun Quan's side.

Famous quotes containing the word fiction:

The obvious parallels between Star Wars and The Wizard of Oz have frequently been noted: in both there is the orphan hero who is raised on a farm by an aunt and uncle and yearns to escape to adventure. Obi-wan Kenobi resembles the Wizard; the loyal, plucky little robot R2D2 is Toto; C3PO is the Tin Man; and Chewbacca is the Cowardly Lion. Darth Vader replaces the Wicked Witch: this is a patriarchy rather than a matriarchy.
Andrew Gordon, U.S. educator, critic. “The Inescapable Family in American Science Fiction and Fantasy Films,” Journal of Popular Film and Television (Summer 1992)

The purpose of a work of fiction is to appeal to the lingering after-effects in the reader’s mind as differing from, say, the purpose of oratory or philosophy which respectively leave people in a fighting or thoughtful mood.
    F. Scott Fitzgerald (1896–1940)
