Youth Emergency Shelter

The Youth Emergency Shelter is located in the city of Peterborough, Ontario, Canada. It is a homeless shelter for males and females between the ages of 16 and 24. After over 10 years of planning, the Youth Emergency Shelter (Y.E.S.) officially opened its doors on December 20, 2002. The official opening of the shelter occurred in February 2003 and was attended by both local and federal politicians including the Honourable Jane Stewart. While Y.E.S. is a shelter for homeless youth, it is also an umbrella organization for other programs concerning this group of at risk youth.

Famous quotes containing the words youth, emergency and/or shelter:

Now the bright morning star, day’s harbinger,
Comes dancing from the east, and leads with her
The flow’ry May, who from her green lap throws
The yellow cowslip and the pale primrose.
Hail, bounteous May, that dost inspire
Mirth and youth and warm desire!
Woods and groves are of thy dressing,
Hill and dale doth boast thy blessing.
    John Milton (1608–1674)

War-making is one of the few activities that people are not supposed to view “realistically”; that is, with an eye to expense and practical outcome. In all-out war, expenditure is all-out, unprudent—war being defined as an emergency in which no sacrifice is excessive.
    Susan Sontag (b. 1933)

    Still with unhurrying chase,
    And unperturbed pace,
    Deliberate speed, majestic instancy,
    Came on the following Feet,
And a Voice above their beat—
“Naught shelters thee, who wilt not shelter Me.”
    Francis Thompson (1859–1907)
