Discovery
The first white settlers to discover the falls were members of a hunting party from the Lewis and Clark Expedition in March 1806. The falls are viewable from a roadside parking lot. They are popular recreational destination for sightseeing, hiking, as well as swimming in the pool below the falls. The falls often appear in television commercials and have also appeared in three movies: Free Willy 2, Benji the Hunted and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 3.

Famous quotes containing the word discovery:
“He is not a true man of science who does not bring some sympathy to his studies, and expect to learn something by behavior as well as by application. It is childish to rest in the discovery of mere coincidences, or of partial and extraneous laws. The study of geometry is a petty and idle exercise of the mind, if it is applied to no larger system than the starry one.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
“One of the laudable by-products of the Freudian quackery is the discovery that lying, in most cases, is involuntary and inevitablethat the liar can no more avoid it than he can avoid blinking his eyes when a light flashes or jumping when a bomb goes off behind him.”
—H.L. (Henry Lewis)
“As the mother of a son, I do not accept that alienation from me is necessary for his discovery of himself. As a woman, I will not cooperate in demeaning womanly things so that he can be proud to be a man. I like to think the women in my sons future are counting on me.”
—Letty Cottin Pogrebin (20th century)
