History
St. John's Benedictine Priory in Youghal was founded on the Main Street in 1185 as a minor house to the St. John the Evangelist Benedictine priory in Waterford. Oliver Cromwell made his headquarters here during the winter of 1649 and he inspected his troops every morning from the Priory.
